Independent Creative Writing School for Emerging Writers to Open in Detroit Fall 2018.
Detroit, MI—Set to open for enrollment fall 2018, Writing Workshops Detroit is an independent writing school for hardworking, talented writers who want to strengthen their voice, develop a greater understanding of craft, and forge a path to publication along the way.
Writing Workshops Detroit offers multi-week writing courses, seminars, and individual consultations to fiction writers, nonfiction writers, poets, and screenwriters in an intimate workshop setting. Classes are inclusive and intentionally small, and will be offered on a rolling basis throughout the year. All workshops are held at Bamboo Detroit in Downtown.
Executive Director Blake Kimzey says Writing Workshops Detroit places the highest importance on teaching the craft of writing so that emerging writers can produce meaningful and memorable work that has the opportunity to find a readership beyond the workshop.
“Essential to our mission, we want writers to be part of a literary community that goes beyond the workshop table,” said Kimzey. “Writing Workshops Detroit believes literary community is essential to the career of any creative writer. You can’t do it alone.”
Writing Workshops Detroit is a welcome addition to the thriving literary scene in Detroit, and counts Desiree Cooper, Katie Chase, Rola Nashef, and Amy Haimerl among its faculty.
Adds Kimzey, “We’re excited to join the most exciting emerging literary scene in the country. If you’re a writer in Detroit, we’d love to be part of your writing journey.”
