Class will return in 2020

$415 New Student | $390 Returning

This class is open to both new and experienced writers looking to break into a new medium.

Have you always dreamed of making comics? This 8-week course will address the fundamentals of writing for comics, covering aspects unique to the medium such as the importance of page turns, the advantages and pitfalls of captions, working with an artist, and more. We will also cover the increasing number of options for publishing your story and resources for finding the right team to bring your story to life.

Through lecture, readings from various graphic novels and a book on craft, you will be exposed to many different conventions and styles associated with creating comics -- showing you the ins and outs whether your work is slice of life, superhero, crime, cooking manga, or something else!

By the end of this course you will have completed one exercise-based and one original script for a six-page comic story.

Note: Students are required to purchase Words for Pictures: The Art and Business of Writing Comics and Graphic Novels by Brian Michael Bendis as the foundational text for the course.
