Story Editing Detroit.png

There is a saying that writing is rejection. That's true: everyone has been rejected many times. But over time those form rejections should turn into personal rejections and eventually become acceptances. Do you feel stuck in your journey to publication? If so, let us help! If you're submitting your work for publication you know that only the top 1 - 2% of all submissions are accepted by literary journals and literary agents. Those are long odds, and we want to help you improve them.

The Editing Process

Let us help you refine and revise your work before you send it out or query literary agents. We specialize in the developmental edit, and look closely at the basic elements of craft that any story needs so that the narrative doesn't fall apart.

We'll stay true to YOUR vision for what the work is and should be. We'll attend to your voice and style and get granular, providing sentence-level editing as well as big-picture notes that you need for a final polish. We'll focus on what makes your story unique, amplifies your voice, and leaves an impression on readers, such as Character, Plot/Outer Story, Inner Story, Pacing, Voice, Setting, Emotion, Point of View, Dialogue, and any other elements of craft that need to be discussed.

After one of our instructors finishes reading your story, they'll write an in-depth letter between 2-3 pages outlining the strengths and weaknesses. We'll offer more than just specific advice on how to improve the story, though; we'll provide a road map forward so that you can survive the next draft and forge a path to publication.
